Astérix et Obelix

by

CJ Hinke comments: 23 of the 35 volumes of classic Astérix comics have been translated into Latin by ‘Rubricastellanus’. ‘Carolus Rubricastellanus‘ is a pseudonym for prolific Latin translator, German Karl Heinz Graf von Rothenburg. All are catalogued in my “A Short Bibliography of Modern Children’s Books in Latin“. Written by Belgian René Goscinny (1926-1977) and illustrated by Italian-French Albert_Uderzo’s (b.1927), these were “graphic novels” dating from 1959 before anyone knew the term. Astérix himself is a Gaul so the stories lend themselves well to Latin.
